* Open PowerVault MDSM
* Add new array manually - specify management IP addresses of each controller (default = 192.168.129.101 & 192.128.129.102). Give the array a name (eg: NFS01)
* Once added, connect to array * Do not automatically configure array when prompted (select No)
* Select “Storage & Copy Services” tab, then right click on “Total Unconfigured Capacity”, select “Create Disk Group” * Click Next, then give the Disk Group a name (eg: NFS_GROUP_01), then select Manual (Advanced), then Next.
* Select correct RAID level from drop down (RAID 6 recommended), then select all but the last disk on left panel and add to right panel. (Last disk will be a hot spare)
* Click “Calculate Capacity”, then Finish
* After completing last step, when prompted to create Virtual Disk, Select Yes. Otherwise right click on “Free Capacity” and select “Create Virtual Disk…”
* In the capacity field, copy the amount from the “Free Capacity” shown above. * Name the VD, (eg: NFS_VD_01). Select “Map Later” from the drop down. Make sure “I/O Characteristics” is set to File system (typical). Click Finish
* Select “Hardware” from top bar, then “Hot Spare Coverage…”, then select “View/Change current coverage”
* Click the disk group you just created on the left panel, then “Assign…” * The last disk that we did not assign to the disk drop should be available and selected, click “Ok”. The Hot Spare Summary should read: “Standby: 1”
