=====2013 HPC Winter School =====

**1 -- 6 July 2013** at the University of Johannesburg.

The **HPC Winter School** is the CHPC's flagship course in //parallel programming// for high performance computing covering:

  * Introduction to high performance computing hardware, systems and techniques
  * Multi-core programming with OpenMP
  * Using message passing (MPI) on cluster super computers
  * GPUs as high performance co-processors
  * Rapid prototyping for HPC with python

=====GPGPU Computing with CUDA Workshop at UCT=====

Although originally designed to handle computation for computer graphics,
fully programmable Graphical Processing Units (GPUs) now offer a powerful
alternative to general purpose computational applications traditionally handled
by Central Processing Units (CPUs). As GPUs have overtaken CPUs in sheer
processing power, GPU solutions have become particularly attractive for
computationally intensive problems, such as data processing and physical
simulations.

This course covers the practical development of algorithms and associated
coding in NVIDIA’s CUDA programming environment for effective general
purpose computing with GPUs.

The course is aimed at UCT Computer Science Honours (4th year) students.
However, we have space for an additional 20 delegates. Application for
attendance should comprise a motivation letter and a CV/resume and be
emailed to Christopher Laidler (''claidler .AT. cs.uct.ac.za'') by the 12th April 2013.
