PI Feedback Guide

This guide provides guidelines on completing the feedback form.

Press release guidelines

An updated press release is required for every feedback (independent of whether allocation hours were used or not) before a new allocation will be set. The focus is on promoting your own research, research group, institution and reasons for benefiting (if not depending) on HPC resources as provided by the CHPC. Press releases will be published on the CHPC Website (and other possible NICIS and CSIR sites).

The 300-word press release should be targeted at a non-specialist audience who, although well-educated, must be assumed to be unfamiliar with the particular scientific domain. Avoid the use of jargon, abbreviations and acronyms.

The press releases will be published separately from other information about the research group, therefore it is necessary to give a brief description of the research group itself. Ensure that the following questions are answered, although not necessarily in any particularly clear order:

  • Who? Identify the research group and institution.
  • What? A brief description of the nature of the work.
  • Why? Explain why the work is being done, and sufficiently important to justify use of public resources.
  • How? Give a very brief and general description of the process, and how it relies on the CHPC.
  • How is the project progressing?

Illustration

We also require an image to accompany the press release, and that will be used to illustrate your research programme. This could be:

  • a diagram, figure or plot of the scientific results,
    • also provide a descriptive caption;
  • a photo of a relevant object, research equipment, or subject,
    • with a caption;
  • a photo of your research team,
    • for example, in front of your institution/dept building with the building name visible,
    • or in your lab, or in the field, pointing to or holding a relevant object;
  • a professional photo of yourself, the leader of your programme.

File formats:

  • SVG
  • JPEG, PNG (at least 100dpi and 1 megapixel in size)
  • PDF
