Principal Investigator Feedback Guide

While it is possible to save an incomplete form by clicking on the “Save” button it is also advisable to keep a backup copy of the longer fields as you fill in your feedback form in case there is a problem with your browser and the save facility fails.

Please ensure to fill in any of the required fields associated with your individual users.

Relevant Research Outputs should be added to our user portal and are also needed by our stakeholders. These include any publications, student graduations, published proceedings, patents, book chapters and books. Research outputs are only relevant if they have both used CHPC resources in some way and acknowledged CHPC within. Please also ensure any past relevant research outputs have been included. Research outputs are uploaded separately from the feedback form:
https://users.chpc.ac.za/reports/publications/

Please note if your CHPC support person requested an update of your research outputs please ensure to notify him/her preferably in the HelpDesk ticket (or via email) when these changes are done. We will only know if you let us know. It is also helpful to notify us of other changes to your feedback.

Below we provide guidelines on completing the Press Release and Associated Illustration:

Press release guidelines

An updated press release is required for every feedback (independent of whether allocation hours were used or not) before a new allocation will be set. The focus is on promoting your own research, research group and institution and to describe how this research is benefiting from (if not depending) on HPC resources as provided by the CHPC. Press releases will be published on the CHPC Website (and other possible NICIS and CSIR sites).

The 300-word press release should be targeted at a non-specialist audience who, although well-educated, must be assumed to be unfamiliar with the particular scientific domain. Avoid the use of jargon, abbreviations and acronyms.

The press releases will be published separately from other information about the research group, therefore it is necessary to give a brief description of the research group itself. Ensure that the following questions are answered, although not necessarily in any particularly clear order:

  • Who? Identify the research group and institution.
  • What? A brief description of the nature of the work.
  • Why? Explain why the work is being done, and sufficiently important to justify use of public resources.
  • How? Give a very brief and general description of the process, and how it relies on the CHPC.
  • How is the project progressing?

Illustration

We also require an image to accompany the press release, and that will be used to illustrate your research programme. This could be:

  • a diagram, figure or plot of the scientific results,
    • also provide a descriptive caption;
  • a photo of a relevant object, research equipment, or subject,
    • with a caption;
  • a photo of your research team,
    • for example, in front of your institution/dept building with the building name visible,
    • or in your lab, or in the field, pointing to or holding a relevant object;
  • a professional looking photo of yourself, the leader of your programme;
    • or a logo of your research group — but not of your institution or department as those are too generic.

File formats:

  • SVG
  • JPEG, PNG (at least 100dpi and 1 megapixel in size)
  • PDF

Uploading and submitting attachments:

If you have had issues with uploading and then submitting an image or a warning saying to check attachments are selected when you tried to submit your feedback form then please watch the video below to assist:
